- Gukesh D is an Indian chess grandmaster. A chess prodigy, he became the third-youngest person in history to qualify for the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in March 2019. On 16 October 2022, at the age of 16, he gained popularity for becoming the youngest player ever to defeat the world champion Magnus Carlsen; he beat Carlsen in a game at the Aimchess Rapid Tournament.
- He started learning chess at the age of seven in 2013. In an interview, his mother talked about his passion for chess and said,
He became crazy about chess from a very young age. The passion only grew stronger with each passing year, but not at the expense of other interests. He also follows and plays cricket, reads books (mostly biographies of sportspersons), plays badminton and table tennis, and enjoys get-togethers with friends and family during his time off from the board. He is a fussy eater at home, but eats whatever he gets while travelling for competitions.”

- At the age of 12 years, 7 months, and 17 days, he became the second-youngest grandmaster in history in 2019. However, when the American chess player Abhimanyu Mishra became the youngest player ever to qualify for the grandmaster title on 30 June 2021, Gukesh D became the third-youngest grandmaster in history.

It was quite tough to handle my profession and his career. I took a backseat to support my son. My wife goes to work. It’s quite tough but when you get these results we are happy for all the sacrifices we have done for him.”
